How does a flood form?
The water cycle has to do with creating a flood. When the ground soaks up too much water it goes into the streams. Too much water will overflow their banks, causing a flood. Some of the worst floods happen when hurricanes come through. A flash flood is when it is caused by heavy rain.


Historical Events

In 1938 the Japanese army invades China. Chiang Kai-shek, decided to fight back with a flood. He ordered his soldiers to blow up levees along the Yellow River. The flood did slow down the japanese army. However it also killed at least a half a million people who lived along the river.

In January 1996 Portland, Oregon. A big flood hit. Eight people had died and the damage soared well into the millions. 28.6 feet of water downtown


How to prevent a flood

You could put sandbags in the road so it could stop the flooding a little bit. Installing watertight shields over all openings, including windows and doors. Strengthen walls to withstand the pressure of the flood.
