How children's choices affect their families.

KAMONE': We chose this to be the symbol for our theme because Romeo and Juliet love each so much but never could be together because the feuds they have in the families. The wounds on the heart represents the pain they'll because they will never really be able to be together because of there parents, it also could represent the parents because they lossed their children because of the life long feud.
KAMONE': Our theme how children's choices affect how their families lives connects with the story Romeo and Juliet because they were so in love with each other, they'll do anything to be together even if that meant killing themselves, or running away; They will never be able to be together because of their family feuds (which this is how the children decisions affect the family), in the prologue this quote "A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life;Whose misadventured piteous overthrows. Do with their death bury their parents' strife. The fearful passage of their death-mark'd love, And the continuance of their parents' rage,Which, but their children's end, nought could remove,Is now the two hours' traffic of our stage; The which if you with patient ears attend,What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend." (Romeo and Juliet, prologue) was basically saying that the family put there feuds aside because there children killed themselves. In my research I found that one really big decision kids have to make that affect parent life's is choosing a college, i can see this affecting the parents in two ways: the tuition cost, and child choice in college, how far is it from school etc. the website I did my research showed all of the different way the child college choices affect their parents life"When it comes down to decision-making time, family input is important, but ultimately the student needs to should be satisfied with the choice. Here are some tips from college experts for families and students to figure out the best school." (http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2012/0... Emily Driscoll) this quote from the article tells us that the child need to be happy with their college choice not just there family; this next quote is a specific way the child choice affects the parents life, this is talking about going to college out of state and the advantages of going out of state and the disadvantages “Schools like kids from other parts of the country and sometimes they give them better financial aid packages,” she says. “If you’re super close to home, you might not embrace the whole college experience as much as you should because if you live close enough and come home to get your laundry done and hang out on the weekends with your old high school friends, you’re not really taking advantage of college.” (http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2012/0... Emily Driscoll)
DEZTINY: Our theme is how children’s actions affect the family. One action that affected the whole story is when Juliet decided to drink a potion that temporally killed her. The first one to be affected by her actions was the Nurse. She came to wake Juliet up for the wedding when she found her; which ties back to the reason why Juliet put herself in a coma in the first place. Like when Lady Capulet said “Oh my, Oh my! My child, my reason for living, wake up, look up, or I’ll die with you!” (Act 4, Scene 5) Juliet’s decision could be the life or death of someone else. Because Juliet didn’t want to marry someone, she put her needs over her family’s needs and made a rash decision. This affected everyone close to her or around her. Each Year about 2 million teenagers attempt suicide and about 700,000 receive treatment. (http://www.nami.org/Content/ContentGroups/Illnesses/Suicide_Teens.htm David Brent)
Deztiny: In this scene she is really pleading to her father and he threatens her because she does not want to marry Paris. His disapproval of her actions has a great affect on what she decides to do later in the story. As a result of her "death", Capulet, Romeo's mother, and others were affected.
KAMONE': I felt like this picture of the Muslim and the Christian looking at each other because in the Muslim faith it is frowned upon to convert to Christianity; in many cases of an Muslim males or females converting to Christianity are killed or disowned by their family for not staying faithful to their faith. In a movie I saw called " God's Not Dead" it was this Muslim girl in college wanting to convert to Christianity but couldn't because of her family was very strong in there believes of not leave the Muslim religion so she had to learn about the Christian religion secretly, shortly after she was caught with the bible and thrown out of her house and was disowned by her family. I feel like connects to the theme because they family had to make the choice to kill her out of their home and disown her because of her decisions she leave she families religion.
KAMONE': One modern use of our theme is teen pregnancy. I feel that teen pregnancy is a modern use of our theme because whenever teenagers decide to have sex before and get pregnant it affect there parents life's because the teen is still a child which means that the parents will have to take care of there child, and the new child because they mother wouldn't be mature enough to take care of the baby by herself. The parents of the teen will have to make a lot of different decisions that will affect there life and their child they will have to decide weather or not the mother can keep the baby, abortion, adoption, kicking her out, etc. "Whether a teenage mother chooses to terminate her pregnancy, give her baby up for adoption or keep the baby, the pregnancy and birth create financial obligations that most often fall on the young mother’s family. Many employee insurance plans deny maternity benefits to dependents, leaving families of teenage mothers to bear the burden of prenatal and delivery expenses, according to Kaiser Health News. After the baby’s birth, infant health care, combined with everyday expenses such as diapers, clothing and childcare, add up to create a major impact on the family budget" (http://www.ehow.com/facts_6308598_effect-teenage-pregnancy-family.html) this quotes talking about the cost of teenage pregnancy if you keep it or give it up for adoption etc. and how it affect the parent because they end up paying for everything in the end.
KAMONE': The second modern use of our theme is teen using substances, how it affects their mental health status, and how all of this takes a toll on their parents life's. I feel like this is another modern use of our theme because in one of the articles I have read it gave me many different statistics about how many teen suffer depression, and other mental illnesses and how it affects the family. "Mental and substance use disorders can have a powerful effect on the health of individuals, their families, and their communities. In 2012, an estimated 9.6 million adults aged 18 and older in the United States had a serious mental illness, and 2.2 million youth aged 12 to 17 had a major depressive episode during the past year. In 2012, an estimated 23.1 million Americans aged 12 and older needed treatment for substance use. These disorders are among the top conditions that cause disability and carry a high burden of disease in the United States, resulting in significant costs to families, employers, and publicly funded health systems. By 2020, mental and substance use disorders will surpass all physical diseases as a major cause of disability worldwide.
In addition, drug and alcohol use can lead to other chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Addressing the impact of substance use alone is estimated to cost Americans more than $600 billion each year." (http://www.samhsa.gov/prevention) this quotes is from an article that I and it talked about specifically how many people under the age of 18 have substance abuse problems, how many of them have mental illness and how it affect the family and how much it will eventually cost to get them help
