My Passion and Curiosity
Teaching is my dream job, it is what I have always wanted to do. To inspire, to expand horizons and to change lives through education. My passion for teaching is why I even dressed up as Ms. Frizzle for my school's character parade during reading month.
My passion for teaching started to when I was a child; my grandmother was a teacher who taught for thirty years. It was her caring and outgoing nature along with her fun approach to education that inspired me to help others learn. Instead of just playing house, I would play teacher with my dolls as my students. Through my K-12 education I volunteered to help teachers and assisted in different classrooms. In college I became highly involved in many different teams and activities. It was then I found my passion for using technology in the classroom. In 2011 a classmate and I presented at the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) conference in Detroit, MI on a Traveling Technology Toolkit. The toolkit was put together by the Hope College Tech Team that I was a part of, it allowed student teachers to take technologies to their classrooms to get hands on experience. Now in my position as a special education teacher I use technology to assist my students, to pique their curiosity and to help ignite their passion for learning.
This is a video that was shared with me during pre-planning week. The world is rapidly changing. To adapt and overcome challenges can be difficult, yet with passion and perseverance any obstacle can be overcome.
My classroom is a place where students can feel safe, while still having a high energy level and lots of fun. It is very important to me to have established a good rapport with each of my students, in this way I can target their curiosity to help them learn. To get my students involved I start many of my lessons with a hook. This way my whole class can be involved and this creates endless opportunities for learning.
"A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning." Brad Henry
Impact of Technology
In My Classroom
Technology is often said to be the way of the future, so it is important that the future generations have exposure to technology. The hooks that I use in my classroom can often be a video or media clip that ignites my students imagination and curiosity. To ensure that my students get hands on experience I like to use iPads. This way my students can practice skills or I can reinforce a lesson. I plan to continue using technology in my class, and I hope that as new technology is developed I can implement it in my classroom.
