At Your Consultation

Prior to your Fraxel Laser treatment we will discuss with you which areas of your skin are appropriate for treatment, what kind of results you can expect, what to look for after treatment and how many treatments may be recommended. The Fraxel Treatment is used to treat - face, neck, décolletage or hands.

Results are immediate and progressive! The skin continues to improve for 3 to 6 months following the Fraxel Treatment. It is important to think about the timing of your treatments and ensure that you do not have any pressing social engagements immediately after the treatment. Although make-up can be applied immediately after the treatment and foundation can ‘mask’ the redness, allowing a few days for the skin to settle is very important.

How Many Treatments will I Need?

Many patients seek Fraxel Treatment to treat sun damaged, pigmented and aged skin. Clinical studies recommend a course of 5 Treatments to achieve desired results. These treatments can be performed 4 to 8 weeks apart.

How Long will the Procedure Take?

Generally patients need to allow 90 minutes in the clinic to complete the treatment which includes: 30 minutes for numbing cream, 30 minute Fraxel Treatment, 20 minute Omnilux White Light treatment and 10 minutes to apply soothing creams and sunscreen prior to leaving the clinic.

How is the Treatment Performed?

Firstly, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area – this stays on for 30 minutes. The numbing cream is removed prior to the Fraxel Treatment. During the Fraxel Treatment a specially designed treatment head is passed over the skin’s surface. This produces thousands of tiny, but deep columns in the skin, known as ‘microthermal treatment zones’ which penetrate deep into the dermis. Following the Fraxel Treatment, cell renewal and healing occurs, and with it the old and pigmented epidermal cells are eliminated.

Generally patients tolerate the treatment very well, however, some patients experience a slight discomfort during the treatments and an oral anaesthetic can be administered if required. Immediately after the treatment the patients face is “ruddy” and feels quite hot and tight.

How does the Treatment Work to Rejuvenate the Skin?

By design, each Fraxel treatment targets 20 – 25% of the skins surface. This 80% of skin that is left untreated allows the skin to heal much faster than if the whole area were treated at once. The Fractional treatment works by using the body’s own healing process to create new, healthy, tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.

Combination Therapy with Omnilux Light Therapy

To maximize results of your treatment, two Omnilux Plus Light Therapy (white light) are recommended: One session immediately after the Fraxel treatment and another session around 4-5 days later with the Post Fraxel Facial. This non-invasive light therapy penetrates deep into the skin to reduce swelling and assist with healing.

What is the Downtime after a Fraxel Treatment?
Most patients experience some swelling of the treated area for 24 to 48 hours following the treatment. The amount of swelling varies with patients and generally subsides within 48 hours. On or around day 4 a slight ‘flaking’ of the treated area will occur. Patients are advised to apply plenty of moisturiser and sun screen to the treatment area. Treated skin returns to normal within 7 days following the Fraxel Treatment.

After Treatment Care

To ensure the right healing environment, DO NOT use Glycolic Acid, Retinol, acidic skincare or “ACTIVE” ingredients for 5 days after the Fraxel. Patients are given a 5 Day Post Procedure “Skin Care Diary” to follow – to ensure that the correct skin regime is followed.

We recommend using CU3 Lotion for 3 days post Fraxel to keep skin hydrated and promote healing. CU3 Lotion can be purchased at ICCM.

To ensure maximised results, ICCM provides a half price calming / exfoliation facial massage and Omnilux Light Therapy Treatment between 5 to 10 days following the Fraxel Treatment.

ICCM
Post Fraxel Facial $60
(usually $120.00), Plus an Omnilux Plus (white) Light Therapy (usually $110).

Long Lasting Results / Benefits

Some results are immediate – such as a feeling of plumpness and reduced lines and wrinkles (usually due to initial swelling in the areas). Most patients comment that their skin starts to feel fresher and smoother within 2 weeks of the first treatment. However, because the treatment penetrates deep in to the dermal layer of the skin, the regeneration process takes place over the following weeks and months. Patients notice that their skin continues to improve over the 3 – 6 months following the Fraxel Treatment.

We encourage patients to return to ICCM for photographs one month after their final session of Fraxel Laser and compare the difference in their skin.
