U.S (VS) Virginia
By: Juliet De La Rosa
United States vs. Virginia, was a court case concerning the Virginia Military Institute's "male-only admissions policy".
The long standing tradition of having an exclusively male student body was criticized for clearly violating the Fourteenth Amendment's equal protection clause.
The Institutes lacked an "exceedingly persuasive justification" for their policy, which in turn lead to 7-1 ruling in the Supreme Court for female admission to be permitted.
Many of these women attending the separate military institutes now had all the opportunities that were not previously offered to them, since the female institute's were obviously lacking in many fields.
