His Legacy

He was a tall man they say

Because the size of his suit

On the walls of museums today

He was a man with a legacy

Says the big memorial

In Washington D.C.

He was a president

Say the text books in classrooms

Teaching government.

He had few siblings

Says the one room log cabin he grew up in

In Kentucky, a town called Sinking Springs

And had many children

Says the big house

In Illinois, a town called Macon

And good children, they were

Say the many toys

Sitting around their furniture.

His parents were poor

Says the small log cabin

He grew up in during the war,

But an honest man, it is said

Because of the challenges he faced

Through every day.

A man with a legacy they say

Because everyone knows

Of that honest man today.
