530,000,000 acres of territory in North America was bought by the United States from France for $15 million.
What is it?
During the 17th century, France explored what is now American territory (from New Orleans to the Great Lakes to modern Montana) . In mid April, 1803, France asked the United States if they were interested in purchasing the land. America was of course like, “Yeah, sign me up!” And they bought it.
The significance of the Louisiana Purchase is that the U.S gained so much more land leading to other things such as the states and eventually the Civil War.
