The Glass Castle
Forgiveness is the most important theme. Throughout the unfolding of the memoir, each character must come to grips with the concept of forgiving each other. Mom and Dad neglected their children in so many ways and should be punished, but their children also need to understand that forgiveness is for themselves as well for their parents. As long as they harbor bitterness in their hearts for how they were raised, they will never find the contentment they deserve.
The kids would have to leave a lot of their things and friends every time they moved. They didn't always have money for the things they wanted. They never built the glass castle. Dad did not keep his promises. Dad got drunk, left for days, and spent moms money and is money on alcohol.
In the beginning of the story the narrator did not want to see her mom and she stays in the taxi and goes home because her mom was there digging in the trash. Then the narrator wanted to get in touch with her mom. She gets in touch and meets her at a restaurant. Then the story rolls into the narrators past.
When the narrator sees her mom digging through the dumpster and begins a series of flash backs and leaves because she be a shame of her mother.
When she gets burned cooking hot dogs and goes to the hospital. The came in and told her that they were leaving Rex Walls style and left. They got home and did the skedaddle and though the cat out the car.
When Billy dates the narrator and he forces a kiss upon her and she brakes with him. Then Billy gets mad and shoot the BB gun at them then Lori gets the real gun gun and shoots it at Billy. Sheriff came by and said they had a court date the next day and the family did the skedaddle that night before the court date.
Muareen stabs mom and goes to California. Dad dies from a heart attack , Mom has a million dollars worth of land. Lori,Rose, Rex,Jaenneatte moves to New York. Jeanette gets married twice and she has a job.
At the end, the family came and had dinner at Jeanette and John's house. They sit and talk and remember how fun it was when dad was alive.
She is the narrator and the main character of the story. She tells the events of her life living with neglectful and yet loving parents.
Jeannette’s alcoholic father who manipulates and uses his wife and his children for his own needs and yet never stops loving them and hoping they love him.
Rose Mary Walls
She is the selfish mother of the family who brings her own baggage with her and passes it on to her children. She also loves her family but only after her own needs are met.
She is the oldest child of the family. She is smart and loving, but without Jeannette, had not the courage to escape the life she hates.
He is the boy of the Walls siblings and learns very young how to protect his sisters. He grows up to be a protector and he becomes a police officer.
She is the most fragile of the children and the youngest.
They used to sleep in desert and have fun in the wild
