Functions of Iodine: Iodine is needed for normal thyroid function and the production of thyroid hormones.
Food Sources: Iodine can be found in foods such as seafood, baked potatoes, milk, iodized salt, baked turkey breast, dried prunes, navy beans, plain yogurt, strawberries, bananas, canned corn, cheddar cheese, white bread, and green beans.
Deficiency or Excess Problems: You can get sick from eating either too much or too little. If your iodine levels get to high the risk or thyroid cancer increases as well as your thyroid becoming enlarged. Children who are born with an iodine deficiency could have physical or mental issues like dwarfism.
