Anymore

What has happened?
As children the act of
Playing pretend was the most
Dramatic we would get

Growing older, we floated away
From each other as if we were
Driftwood in a sea of popularity
Now we are no longer
Playing pretend

Milkshake straws become cigarettes
Pills are bought even if we aren't sick
Cuts don’t come from falling off swings anymore
Why must daydreams of ruling a kingdom
Be replaced with the idea of killing ourselves?

Depression, anxiety, and anorexia
Become common words among
Our conversations with each other
Mental disorders seem to spread
As if they’re common colds

It isn't fair

For us to sit back and watch others
Make illnesses the hottest trend
My hands shake as these words
Appear on paper, but this so-called
‘Society’ that is against us is

Nothing but a figure
Of our imaginations
It cannot control us
