Holodomor Ukrainian Genocide

Holodomor- "Death by hunger"

Imagine that you were from Soviet Union during the genocide Holodomor, and you heard that thousands of children were dying from starvation. Would you agree with your country's leaders or try to help the Ukrainian men, women, and children? The population of people dying was at a rate of 25,000 men, women, and children a day. Half of them were children.

Holodomor is an important time in history, that affected many people severely. Holodomor is an Ukraine genocide that the Soviet Union caused because they had power over Ukraine at the time. Most of the people died from starvation and most of the people dying were innocent children. In the spring of 1933, the rural population of Ukraine was dying at a rate of 25,000 a day, half of them children. This Ukrainian genocide started 1932 and ended 1933 this lasted about a year.

1932 Soviet Union had been in domination of Ukraine. Ukraine is a small country about the size of France alone. Living in Ukraine during this time was harsh. Secret police from the Soviet Union was going house to house seizing stored food in their house so that they couldn't eat and they stayed weak. Some people didn't know what to do, so they started stealing food. Those who were caught stealing food was either shot, and or imprisoned for at least ten years. So the Ukrainian people did nothing but starve. Soviets had almost complete control over Ukraine.

A lot of Ukrainian people tried to steal food from private farms owned by secret Soviet police. About 5,000 that was caught stealing got arrested, and some even got shot. Some were murdered or they were sent to prison camps. It is estimated that more than 10 million people died from violent executions, deportations, and starvation. People were not let out of prison camps. They stayed there until they died in 1933.

Holodomor Genocide killed many children. The genocide in fact continued for more years with the more killing of Ukraine politicians, the resettlement of Ukraine's destroyed areas with other races, they killed who ever spoke or made it public that they were doing this were killed. In the summer of 1932 if anyone even children who took a few stalks of wheat were prosecuted or execution. So therefore deaths by starvation. Holodomor is an important time in history, that killed many men, women, and children.
