Livingston ISD
Gifted and Talented Nominations

The Livingston Independent School District is committed to providing educational opportunities for all students to develop to their full potential. The district staff recognizes that children require differentiated educational programs to meet their needs.

There is a group of students who exhibit gifted and talented characteristics. A “gifted and talented student” means a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who: (1) exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area; (2) possess an unusual capacity for leadership; or (3) excels in a specific academic field. (Texas Education Code, Chapter 29. Subchapter D)

It is with these students in mind that the Livingston Independent School District has developed a plan, which is designed to offer educational opportunities and services in addition to those normally provided by the regular school program. The ultimate goal is to develop within the individual the desire for excellence and a sense of individual responsibility to self and society.

For this school year, 2016-2017, all students in grades Kindergarten through 11th will be screened based on nominations by parents, teachers, school staff personnel, members of the community or secondary students may nominate themselves. If you would like to nominate a child, please fill out the nomination form below.

Screenings originating from nominations are done in the fall for elementary campuses and fall and spring for secondary campuses. Students may be tested only once per school year. A student profile will be created to identify students for the program. Parents will be notified by the GT Coordinator if their child meets the Gifted and Talented screening requirements. More information about the Gifted and Talented program can be found on the Livingston ISD website.
