Why water is soo important.

Some essential functions of water.

  • Water helps regulate temperature.
  • Water makes the job the kidneys perform easier for the kidneys by flushing out waste.
  • Water carries nutrients and oxygen to cells
  • Water moistens tissues in the mouth eyes and nose which require hydration
  • Water dilutes blood, preventing it from clotting.
  • Water is a shock absorber for the brain, helping prevent injuries.
  • Water is needed in almost every cell for them to function.

How much of the body is water (Just about All of it)

The human body is about 78%-55% water depending on the persons physique, age, and gender.

  • Adult males are about 60% water and Adult females are about 55%
  • When a human is born they are about 78% water and at the age of one year the number is closer to 65%
  • children are anywhere around 65%-68%

Why all this water?

The top 5 organs that are the most percent water are (in descending order) Blood, the Kidneys,Muscles, the Brain,and the Lungs.

Blood is mostly water because the plasma (the bit of the blood that happens to be the most important part, carrying red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets) is mostly water with dissolved electrolytes in it.

The Brain is mostly water (and is surrounded by water) because water acts as a shock absorber and protects the brain from being damaged by falls and hard hits.

The lungs are suspended in water for much the same reason as the brain. also both need to be hydrated a certain amount.

The kidneys are mostly water because it's job is to remove toxins and water is excelent at that type of job

How much to drink

Most people hear that we are supposed to drink up 8 glasses of water a day. This is both true and not true. Women need to drink 8 glasses a day and men need twelve, but not just of water, but of any fluid, though most of it should be water.

Water's helpful heat.

The specific heat of water is 1 calorie/gram °C = 4.186 joule/gram °C. Higher than most any other common substance. It helps our bodies in regulating temperature, because water can absorb so much heat before it's temperature changes it helps keep the body at a relatively steady temperature.


If you're laboring in the sun you can survive anywhere from 24-28 hours without water, not very long. If you're sitting inside where temperature and other environment conditions are regulated you can survive up to three days without water, still not very long.

The Digestive and Nervous systems are the most affected first. Dehydration is signaled at first with dry mouth and throat along with swollen tongue, and also with dizziness, fatigue, sluggishness, and confusion.
