James & Andrew's Manifest Destiny Project
This regards both Manifest Destiny and Westward Expansion. People moved through many challenges including death.
Dear Diary, People moved west because there were supposed to be "mountains of gold" and "You can get rich quick". When you go, there are unsuspected challenges that you have to go through...so far, there has been people dying everyday, luckily, we have two wagons, so we can make the trip. I hope our new home is better than our old home. Our mom has prepared so we can set off. ~Andrew
Dear Diary, When people moved West, they were trying to find something, most were unsuccessful in finding gold. If everybody goes, they will not be enough gold and riches for all. I don't know why I wanted to come. I should have stayed at home; my friend died from Yellow Fever. The people increase the population and to just leave. When people don't like where they are, they move West to basically start over on life. ~Andrew
Dear Diary, So far, we have had a broken wheel, axle, and tongue. We are almost there... Now our wagon is in a ditch, we had to dig it out. It was HARD! One of our oxen died, we only have four left. The journey is turning out pretty well. I wish it would best WE ARE ABOUT TO BE RUN OVER BY BUFFAL
Our wagon is now crushed to bits. We have to use our second wagon. ~Andrew
Dear Diary, Two days ago, we left for California. I decided that I should keep a journal. Since we've left, only one thing has happened; we already lost an ox! We only have three left. I'm not quite sure why Father decided for us to move. I think that it might be because of what he has heard at work . He really seems to have set his mind on gold! ~James
Dear Diary, It's been six days since I last wrote in here. My little sister, Molly, has cholera. Father says that we are farther than he had expected, so far. Although we began traveling a little over a week ago, we are still near the towns. Father also said that with everyone else that has already went, that there ought to be an established settlement by the time we arrive. ~James
Dear Diary, I'm not even sure how long it's been. With everything going on , and lately, I haven't had time to write. Mother and Molly have died, and Father has Yellow Fever. I don't believe that he'll last much longer. Mark, my younger brother, and I, have split the tasks of hunting, and controlling the wagon between ourselves; rotating each day. Now I see what different challenges the other folks were talking about. We only have one ox left, and we are dangerously low on food. I don't think we'll make it. ~James

My invention is one that allows you to set aside food early in the month, so that you don't run out later. It fits in the floor, and has vents to air it out, and pockets to contain ice, if there is any. It has dates labeled boldly. ~James
