"What we want is to see the child in the pursuit of knowledge, and not knowledge in pursuit of the child".
-George Bernard Shaw
I would like to become a educator, and I believe that this particular quote is great for educators who want to make their class learn.
I first read this quote when I was 15. I thought it was great because then I was sure I wanted to be a educator.
To me the words mean that not every child enjoys learning, but I will not stop trying to make my class interesting. Like I do not want the student to feel that my class is the boring class that they have to come to and do not learn anything. My class will be interesting.
I honestly do not have a role model in my life. Why? I do not have a role model because not a single person I've met so far in my life fits the picture. Not even internet celebrities or real celebrities either. My father is a great man, I just wish to not go down the same path as he did. My step father cannot be it either, because one that would hurt my father, and two because he's not responsible. I personally spend a lot of time on the internet. Mostly on Youtube. However of those people I watch, none of them I can see as being my role model. Sure they entertain me, but that is their job. Not to be looked up to. I apologize for not having a role model.
In the article "Great teachers don't teach" by Ben Johnson, he discusses his experiences with great teachers, and what makes a great teacher, he explains, "My experience is that good teachers care about students. Good teachers know the content and know how to explain it. Good teachers expect and demand high levels of performance of students. Good teachers are great performers and storytellers that rivet their students' attention" (Johnson: 1). I myself cannot help myself to strongly agree with this statement. All of these attributes are what I will try to achieve while teaching. However I feel that if I try to hard to become a great teacher, that that will be the only thing on my mind. If it is the only thing on my mind then I wont really teach will I. The goal is to have the students enjoy to class but at the same time, learn.
