SACAGAWEA

Sacagawea was born in 1788 in Salmon River Country. She was kidnapped at the age of 11 by Hidatsa warriors. Then when she was 16 she was sold to Toussaint Charbonneau a French and Canadian fur trapper. On Feb. 11, 1805 she gave birth to a boy who she named Jean Baptiste. Two months late they joined the 31 Corps members.

The corps of Discovery was an expedition sent by President Thomas Jefferson to explore the land that was included in the Louisiana Purchase. Merriwether Lewis and William Clark were the captains of the expedition.
