The Heian Period
In 794 Japan's emperor moved the capital to Heian which is now called Kyoto. The Nobles that lived in Heian had beautiful palaces and enjoyed their lives of ease and privilege. Rules of etiquette governed all aspects of court behavior and dress. One of te best achievements during this time would be poetry. Poems usually focused on love and nature. The greatest writer would have to be Lady Murasaki Shikibu.
