Virtual Faculty Meeting -
March 26, 2015
It's your lucky day!!! Because we had to postpone our CIIC Meeting (CIIC is meeting today), you get a 2nd Virtual Faculty Meeting :) I hope you enjoy the gift of a little bit of extra time!
Next week will be our first round of STAAR Testing for the year. On Monday, March 30th and Tuesday, March 31st, our 4th graders will be taking the STAAR Writing Test. On Tuesday, March 31st, our 5th graders will be taking the STAAR Reading Test. There will be an alternate block schedule on those two days. Be looking for an email from Jennifer with the alternate block schedule for the two testing days.
Due to test confidentiality and standardized testing procedures, we are not allowed to have any visitors in the building on state testing days. Please do not schedule any parent conferences for these days. Also, please remind your parents that they are not allowed to come to school to have lunch with their child on state testing days. A letter will be sent home, but it is best to communicate this as many ways as possible to avoid having unhappy parents when they are not allowed to eat with their child!
As always, please make sure the kiddos are very quiet as they move through the hallways. There will be testing going on in all parts of the building.
K-2 teachers...if your class has adopted a 4th or 5th grade class, I know that the 4th and 5th graders would love to hear some words of encouragement from their partner class!
The Spring Book Fair is scheduled for April 6th - April 10th. Ms. Miller will have a sign up sheet for previews. Previews will be on Monday & Tuesday. The library will be open for Book Fair purchases from 8:00 - 3:00 Wednesday & Thursday and 8:00 - 12:00 on Friday. It will also be opened during Art Night on Wednesday from 5:30 - 7:30.
In other Library news....
Ms. Miller will be meeting with all 1st and 2nd grade classes to introduce a new reading program that will fall in between the 2x2 and Bluebonnet reading programs. This program will impact next year's 2nd and 3rd graders, so this year's 1st and 2nd graders will have the chance to vote for the name of the program.
Due to library closures because of testing, Book Fair, etc., Ms. Miller will send out a schedule for Friday checkout times for the next couple weeks. She wants to make sure that kids are still able to check out books in the midst of this busy time of year!
CCISD Elementary Job Fair
The Clear Creek ISD Job Fair will be held at Clear Springs High School on Tuesday, April 7th from 5:00 - 7:00. We will be asking a few people to attend the Job Fair with us to help recruit for the positions we will have available next year.
Art Night - April 8th
Our annual Art Night will be Wednesday, April 8th. Doors will open at 5:30. This is one of the activities that our kids and families look forward to every year! Ms. Jones is working very hard to prepare the grade level activities, she just needs as many people as possible to show up to assist with the activities. If you are not a classroom teacher, but are able to be here to help that evening, please see Jessica to find out where she needs support. There will be food in the lounge prior to the Art Night activities!
Please continue to organize, pack, and purge! As soon as we begin getting boxes, I will get them to you. Remember that any personal items of value should go home with you. The district will not be responsible for damaged or missing personal items. You can make use of your cabinets to store anything that you do not think will be damaged due to heat or humidity.
I will be writing a letter to send home with students to communicate the work being done here this summer and to inform them that our office will be located at Falcon Pass this summer. The letter will be sent home with the students, via email, and on our website.
Whitcomb Family News...
We have two newly weds among us...
Congratulations to the new Mrs. Allie Caldwell and to the new Mrs. Erika Burleson!!! Allie Battenfield and Erika Bahena both got married over Spring Break! Congratulations Ladies, we wish you both much happiness!
Please keep Melissa Hedrick in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to recover from knee surgery. She is anxious to return to school, but her knee is not quite ready for 1st graders yet! We miss you Melissa!
Spring has Sprung!
Spring is a very busy, and often stressful, time of year! The birds are singing, the crickets are chirping, and the kids are bouncing! Although we had a break, we came back to the busiest time of year and dove right into curriculum, test prep, etc! It is so easy to become overwhelmed with all that we have to do. Please take time to remember a few things:
* You are doing a great job!
* The kids are also feeling the stress of this time of year!
* Consistency and structure are key!
* Your words and your encouragement have a powerful impact on our students!
Please click the link to view one of my very favorite TED Talk videos! I don't even know how many times that I have watched this video and it inspires me every single time. It really speaks to the power that a teacher has in the lives of her students! You are their champion, you are an educator, and you were born to make a difference!!!
