Why were the Colonist so mean to the Cherokee? Well, hear this, Most of the Cherokee lived south of Virginia. By the early 1800's, many had adopted European customs new settlers wanted more Indian territories ,so they pushed the Cherokee, along with other Indian nation , from there homelands. The Cherokee were forced to march hundreds of miles west, to what is know is the state of Oklahoma. This terrible walk led to the deaths of thousands and came known as the Trail of Tears.


            Cherokee men oversaw village government  and served as warriors.
