Check for leaks
Leaks can cause many gallons of leakage a day; 20 to hundreds of gallons a day.
Don't use the toilet as a trash basket
5 to 7 gallons of water are wasted every time a toilet is flushed. Don't waste that on unnecessary items.
Check your toilets for leaks
Water can leak out of the top into the bowl, making the top have to refill.
Check the water meter
If the water meter moves and you haven't used water then you have a leak in your house.
Water saving shower heads
These shower heads regulate water using less than 2.5 gallons per minute.
Float boosters installed in your toilet
They can save up to 10 gallons of water a day.
Insulated water pipes
We waste less water waiting for it to heat up.
Cut down shower time
4 minutes in a shower uses 20 to 40 gallons of water. Cut that down, it could save millions of gallons a year.
Don't leave the water running while brushing teeth
There is no part in running water when it's not being used.
Rinse razors in the sink
Water sitting in the sink works just as well as running water.
Wash dishes and clothes only on full loads
Only washing on full loads can save many unnecessary loads saving a lot of water.
Minimize the use of garbage disposals
Garbage disposals use lots of water and can add excess waste to your septic tank.
Don't leave water running when washing dishes
Instead of leaving the water running when washing dishes use the spray nozzle.
Keep bottled water cold
Don't run cold tap to cool down bottled water that wastes too much unused water.
Get drought resistant plants
This way your plants can rely on rainwater instead of you having to water them.
Put mulch around your plants
Mulch slows down the evaporation of water so plants won't need as much water.
Keep the water out of the gutter
Only water grass, place sprinklers in locations that only water the things that need water.
Water the grass when needed
The grass only needs to be watered when you step on it and it crunches or stays flat.
Water the grass really good
Water that is on the surface evaporates, while water in the roots won't.
Water early or late in the day, don't water while its windy
In the middle of the day its hottest. The hotter it is the faster water evaporates. Wind blows water away from where you want it to be, essentially wasting it.
Add organic matter to soil
Organic matter increases the absorption rate and it's healthy for the plants.
Don't use the hose while washing the car
Use a soapy bucket of water instead of constantly using water.
Use the broom for cleaning not the hose
The hose is wasteful, while the broom uses nothing.
Check for outside leakages
Outside leakages may not seem as bad as indoors ones, but its only because you can't see them as well.
