Josaphat Arts Hall

Located only minutes from downtown Cleveland OH, this arts facility gets its name from its original namesake.
The former St. Josaphat Roman Catholic Church was built in 1915.

Like most religious facilities it served the surrounding community and played an instrumental role in the development of the neighborhood. Throughout the history of the parish, the building represented not only the dreams and memories of its members but also of its neighbors. An individual only needs to spend several minutes outside of the building to hear the recollections of its friends. Sadly, in 1998 the parish closed its doors due to economics. The spiritual community it served could no longer support the immediate needs of the deteriorating building, which was in poor condition. The structure was desanctified and all religious artifacts were removed and relocated prior to its sale.

Today, the renovated sacred structure that was erected as a gathering place has reopened as a gathering space, bringing people of all ethnicity together through curiosity, respect and love of the arts.

Josaphat Arts Hall is a recipient of the AIA Cleveland 2006 Historic Preservation Award & Cleveland Restoration Society 2006 Preservation Award for Adaptive Use of a Sacred Structure.
