THE CRUSADES: FROM THE JEWISH PERSPECTIVE

GOAL: Understand the different perspectives the people of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East had about the Crusades.
1. Jerusalem was really important to the Jews. The reason is that Jerusalem was the Jewish capital (from 1500 B.C.E to 73 A.D). When the Jews prayed they prayed to the Jerusalem, (this shows that they respected Jerusalem). Jerusalem was the main point of the Jewish prayers/ prays. Jerusalem was this important to the Jews.
2. The Crusades began in the 11th century. The crusaders were interested in the Holy City's. The crusades started when Pope Urban II called to go against Turks in order to save Christendom. After 1110 the crusaders ruled a small percentage of the population.
3. To the crusades since Jews weren't christians they were enemy. They fought and after they fought many Jews were killed. Jews were also sent for slavery.
4. The Jews had respect for all groups. After the first crusade where many Jews were killed because of the Christians but as Jews they believed in forgiveness.
