Designed by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti, the Silver American Eagle is one of the most popular and sought of bullion coin minted by the mint yearly.  Striking of this coin started in 1986 and has been struck to date.  The obverse design shows Weinman's Liberty Walking design used on the half dollar coins struck between 1916 through 1947.  The reverse design shows John Mercanti‚Äôs heraldic eagle.  Another fun fact about this bullion coin is since 2001, the West Point location of the U.S. Mint has been the sole producer of both regular and proof strikes.
