Mother and Son

The main claim in the poem is when the mother is telling her life story while teaching her so to never give up.
-The characters are a mother and a son.
-The conflict is this woman has been through horrible times and is telling her son not to ever give up.
-The resolution is when the mother tells her son to never give up for the last time.
-Are there figures of speech being used? "Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair."
-What do those figures of speech mean literally? Yes because a crystal stair means it is not easy.
-A good theme for the text would be to never give up even if it as bad as getting bit from a shark.
