Mario's recovery

Mario underwent multiple surgery to correct chronic back pain in 1993. Mario also underwent radiation surgery for help cure his Hodgkin lymphoma in 1993.

Mario as a role model

After Mario retired for the last time he became a great role model for many people everywhere, from his amazing recovery from cancer.

Fun Facts

- Mario was the third hockey player to play after being inducted into the hockey hall of fame after Gordie Howe, Guy Lafleur.

- The three year wait period was waved upon his first retirement to be inducted to the hockey hall of fame

-After his retirement Wayne Gretzky said that you don't replace players like Mario and the game would miss him, as well Bobby Orr claimed he was the best to play the game.

-Mario scored his first goal in his first game on his first shift on his first shot.

-Mario is the only player to come close to Gretzky's 200 point season (199)



we think Mario is a exccelent example of perseverance because he survived cancer in his white blood cells and came back into the NHL many times after injury's and persevered to go through surgery and extensive training to get back into playable condition.
