Markus Wilhelm Directs Chapel Hill Solar Power Developer Strata Solar

As CEO of Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based Strata Solar, LLC, Markus Wilhelm leads one of the largest solar power engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors in the United States. Under his leadership, Strata Solar provides vertically integrated EPC, development, and financing services for turn-key, utility-scale solar farm projects, as well as commercial rooftop installations. Markus Wilhelm has positioned Strata Solar as the builder for over a gigawatt of projects currently in development throughout six states, most recently securing a commission to begin construction in 2015 for the largest solar farm on the East Coast.

Broadly engaged in local initiatives to advance sustainable energy, Mr. Wilhelm has served as chairman of the Renewables Committee for the State of North Carolina Energy Policy Council. He also participates in several University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill organizations focused on environmental resource conservation, including the UNC Water Institute and the UNC Institute for the Environment.

Before entering the green energy field, Markus Wilhelm worked for more than two and a half decades within the direct marketing and publishing sectors of the media industry. While CEO for Bertelsmann AG’s Direct Group, he played a key role in growing the corporation’s publishing business, including the book club operator Bookspan. Mr. Wilhelm has formerly served on the boards of directors for Barnes & Noble, the DMA, and the DMEF. He currently serves as a member of the board for Organic Transit.
