How is MATH used in everyday life?

Give a specific example from something you've seen or heard on TV, the internet, or radio. Be SPECIFIC with your example! (Ex: Aaron Rodgers has the same win:loss ratio as Brett Favre in the first 100 games. It is 68:32)

Do not repeat an example that has already been used. Be creative!

I was watching the Biggest Loser. Tomon,a contestant, weighed 246 in the previous weigh in. He lost 11 pounds and now weighs 235. His weight loss percentage is %4.47. He is not below the yellow line! To find the percentage, you divide the number of pounds you lost by your starting weight and then multipltiplying this number by 100. Since the beggining he has lost 101 pounds! :)

The last Iowa and Iowa State basketball game scores were 72-65 with Iowa in the lead. Iowa State needs 7 to tie and 8 or more to win.
