About Matthew Moten
Matthew Moten is a professor of history and strategic planner for the United States Miitary Academy at Wests Point, New York. In those roles he helps prepare West Point to prepare young men and women to become the Army officers of the next generation. Matthew Moten also advises Ken Burns, the famed documentarian, and Florentine Films on an upcoming project titled Vietnam. Before accepting his current position, Moten worked as head of the academy's Department of History.
Beyond his work educating the next generation of America's military leaders, Matthew Moten served his country as deputy commander with Task Force Dragon of the Multi-National Corps-Iraq. During this period, he helped guide a brigade numbering 4,000 soldiers in his capacity as second in command. He also defended a military base in Iraq against insurgents.
Colonel Moten has published several history books, the most recent of which is titled Presidents and Generals, which is forthcoming from Harvard University Press.
