The Mother of All Weekends
Saturday June 15, 2013 at 1pm
Welcome to M.A.W. 2013 -- The Mother of All Weekends.
This year marks the third installment of M.A.W.—the now infamous event that has swept the nation with remarkable force. Two years ago, the idea was conceived as a modest attempt to get a mother down to Columbus for a weekend. I never could have dreamed of what it would become in such a short amount of time—an epidemic of mom-bastic proportions!
In spite of its success, we musn't lose sight of the mission upon which the weekend was originally founded. M.A.W. seeks to rekindle the ever-important bonds between mother and kin, in an unusually enjoyable fashion. We start by gathering closely together, we then add a few guggs of wine and a spark of laughter, and watch the fun set ablaze!
Specifically, our agenda will be as folllows:
- 2 PM - Franklin Park Conservatory: We'll take a stroll on a beautiful summer afternoon through 88 acres of Columbus' finest wilderness. As they describe it, "Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a premier botanical landmark and cultural attraction featuring exceptional plant collections and gardens, seasonal art- and nature-based exhibitions, and a dynamic array of educational opportunities and special events for visitors of all ages." - 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM: Downtime for us all to return to our respective dwellings and freshen up before the evening's activities.
- 6:30 PM - BBQ/Picnic at Nick's Condo: A little change-up from years past. We'll ditch the shackles of formal dining in lieu of a good ol' fasion barbecue at Nick and Kacy's (weather permitting). Click the link for directions. Parking is free along 3rd Avenue.
- 8:30 PM - Night on the Town: We'll be within walking distance of the bustling, vivacious nightlife of Columbus' Short North Arts District. Buckle up and brace yourself for a seemingly illegal dose of merriment and fun!
For months now, Twitter, Facebook, and the like have been buzzing in anticipation of the storied affair. (Moms- if you don't know what Twitter is, Google it. If you don't know what Google is, 30-second timeout in the corner.) Well my friends, the time is nigh, and the wait...almost over.
M.A.W. 2012 attracted the largest gathering in the event's history, and we know the record can be broken again this year
