# Properties of Matter

A balance measures mass

Mass - the amount of matter in an object

A skyscraper takes up space

Volume - the amount of space an object takes up

A scale measures weight

Weight - ( on Earth ) a measure of the force of gravity between Earth and an object

The boat has the right amount of density to float

Density - a measure of how tightly packed matter is; the amount of mass contained in a given volume

This shows buoyancy

Buoyancy - the upward push on an object by the liquid (or gas) the object is placed in

This silver cup is a conductor.

Conduct - allow heat or electricity to flow through readily

This glass cup is an insulator.

Insulate - not allow heat or electricity to flow through readily

The sugar dissolved better than the flour

Solubility - to dissolve in water

These are all attracted to the magnet, therefore, magnetic

Magnetism - attracts a magnet

This shows three states of matter

State of Matter - any of the forms matter can exist

This ice has reached the melting point

Melting Point - the temperature at which a solid changes state into a liquid

This picture shows the boiling point in celcius

Boiling Point - the temperature at which a liquid changes state into a gas

This ice is at the freezing point

Freezing Point - the temperature at which a liquid changes state into a solid
