Headteacher's Blog

Open week is now complete! During the week I have taken over 25 parents or members of the community around the school to look at lessons and the opportunities available to our young people. We received some fantastic feedback from our visitors. We have also had a monitoring visit from the local authority who look at at our progress since the last inspection. They have commented that,

'The school is taking effective steps to address not only the issues raised during the Ofsted inspection, but also improve other key aspects that are crucial in securing a judgement of at least good at the next section 5 inspection.'

Next week we are looking forward to our Open Evening for Post 16 studies and I urge all Year 11 parents to join us to look at the courses on offer and to have the opportunity to speak with teachers. As you are aware the school has a strong track record of A level results with students achieving outstanding results.

I would finally like to make a special mention this week to over 60 Year 10 students who attended the woman in Black Theatre visit. Mrs Harris our Head of English could not speak highly enough about how they conducted themselves at the theatre.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the PTA quiz tonight.

Please do support our PTA events. The PTA work hard all year to raise money for the benefit all our students. The new fund raising project for this year is to purchase new lockers for use by the pupils.

Latest from the Library

The Library was buzzing during form times on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week as our mentored reading programme got underway. Sixth form students, as part of their community service, volunteered to act as ‘Reading Mentors’ with selected year nine students.

This programme has now been established for nine years at Thomas Alleyne’s and continues to prove successful. Over four million words were read in 2013 - 2014 with 85% of students ‘graduating’ from the programme with improved literacy skills.
