Experienced Public School Administrator
Currently serving the communities of Cicero and Berwyn, Illinois, as superintendent for JS Morton High School District 201, Michael Kuzniewski, EdD, began his career in Florida as a teacher for Safety Harbor Middle School. Dr. Michael Kuzniewski then served as assistant principal for Largo Middle School, where he developed the curriculum and set the master schedule for a school with an average enrollment of 1,300 students.
Upon relocating to Illinois, Dr. Michael Kuzniewski worked for nine years as principal with central office responsibilities for Villa Park School District 45. As executive director of research, federal programs, and grants for Rockford School District 205, he directed the consolidated planning process for Illinois’ third largest district.
Dr. Kuzniewski joined District 201 in 2008 as assistant superintendent and handled duties ranging from staff evaluations to writing the three-year district curriculum plan. Since becoming superintendent in 2010, Dr. Michael Kuzniewski has instituted an all-inclusive staff development plan, consistently maintained a balanced budget, and secured feasible labor agreements through lean economic periods. He has also facilitated a 122 percent increase in the number of students taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes by eliminating barriers that limited the eligibility of students for enrollment in AP courses.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Kuzniewski earned a master of education in administration and supervision from the University of South Florida, followed by a doctor of education in educational leadership from Nova University. He belongs to the Illinois Association of School Administrators and the Rotary Club of Cicero/Berwyn.
