About Michael O'Dell MD
Michael O’Dell, MD, has led a multifaceted career in family
medicine since earning his medical degree from the University of Kansas
School of Medicine in 1977. With over 30 years of medical experience,
Michael O’Dell, MD, currently works as the associate chief medical
officer at Truman Medical Centers in Lakewood, Missouri. The physician
also serves as the chair of the Clinical and Academic Department of
Family Medicine at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
Earlier in his career, Dr. O’Dell was an active naval officer who held multiple positions in the medical field. His assignments ranged from general medical officer to executive officer of two 500-bed facilities. Michael O’Dell, MD, also served as the director of inpatient medical wards in Bahrain during the first Gulf War.
Active in his profession, Dr. O’Dell is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physician Executives, the Medical Group Management Association, and the American Society for Quality. Dr. O’Dell has spoken at meetings and workshops for the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, and the Joint Commission Physician Engagement Advisory Group.
