History and origin
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was founded in 1861 by William Barton Rogers. He believed that the people deserved an education that was evolving just as fast as the industrializing world. Therefore, he founded a school that will potentially teach the students industrial science, and the connection it has with agriculture, commerce,arts, and manufactures.
For over 150 years, MIT has served as the foundation for 81 Nobel Prize Laureates, 22 MacArthur Fellows, and 3 Pulitzer Winners. Its great discoveries, products, and research have given the school the reputation to be one of the best schools in the world to study subjects related with engineering, sciences, and mathematics.

REX: Resident Exploration
At East Campus, there is a tradition during Orientation Week that focuses in highlighting the unique cultures each dorm has. The carnival is hosted by upperclassmen and there is a series of events and projects going on. These include: a student-made roller coaster, space training, hair dyeing, a swinging viking ship, and more.

A biomedical engineer combines biology, medicine, and engineering to improve a patient's health and well-being.The career focuses in developing products that simplify a person's treatment and evolve medical technology.
The history of biomedical engineering dates back to the building of wooden crutches and wooden prosthetic limbs. It is a field of engineering that is expanding at a rapid rate due to the speed of technology evolving. And just as any engineering field, it has its branches.The branch that I personally want to focus on is Biomechanics.Biomechanics involves the study of motion and the flow of substances in the body. Researchers in this field have developed artificial “spare parts” for the human body, such as hearts, heart valves, kidneys, hips, and joints. From there, prosthetic designer is a career that involves the designing of efficient and well-developed prosthetic limbs accustomed to each patient.
The earnings of a biomedical engineer vary depending on their place of work and the education they have gotten. An engineer with a master's degree will earn more than an engineer with a bachelor's degree.
"Starting salaries in the private sector and in hospitals range from about $45,000 to $60,000 a year. The median income for all biomedical engineers is about $77,000 a year. Those who move into senior positions often earn between $90,000 and $122,000 a year"(Career Cruising).
It is required to have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biology, or Biological Engineering. Also, it is required to have a Master's degree, in order to be a prosthetic designer, in Biomechanics. It is helpful, however not required, to have a certification in a prosthetist program.
Obtaining the position of Secondary Designer in the company Prosthetics In Motion in order to extend my knowledge in the field and utilize my passion for designing and improving the quality of life to others.
Project leader in Limbs International. June 2022- Present
* Organize and coordinate the project One for You, One for All. Which involved the redesigning and making of new limbs for everyone who needs a limb, and distributing limbs rewarding those who purchased a limb.
* Designed the bionic leg RTX 102, and utilized it in the project efficiently
Internship at MIT Biomechanics Summer Camp. May 2019-August 2021
* Monitored activities taking place at the Building Station of the camp, occasionally assisting ensemble of legs and arms
* Co-designed the bionic arm LPM-04, tested, and approved of its functions.

Ms. Nevarez is an exemplary dedicated student with a great desire to succeed. I have been her Biomedical teacher the past year, and I can proudly say that she has been one of the best students I’ve had in many years.
Of the many great qualities that Ms. Nevarez possesses, two that have made a lasting impression on me are her desire to expand her knowledge and her need to help others. Day after day, she has come into my classroom ready to tackle and gain understanding of any challenges that I present to her. She has shown great interest in helping better other’s lives by going out of her way to volunteer at retirement homes and food pantries. These two qualities paired together could help bring an abundance of new innovations in creating prosthetics and new machines to diagnose medical problems that will help save people’s lives.

Prosthetics In Motion

Good evening Chris,
I am applying for the position of Secondary Prosthetic Designer in response to our meeting in the cooperative's office at the Prosthetics In Motion location.
As I mentioned before, I am currently pursuing my education in Northwestern University Prosthetics-Orthotics Center to further the extent of knowledge in the field. I currently already have a Bachelor’s degree of Biological Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the hands-on experience I have received so far has expanded my appreciation for the field. During my senior year in University, I had the opportunity to work with Limbs International as a temporary designer. During the time I was allowed to work with the design team, I was named leader of the Legs On Ground project. The project itself was focused in creating an affordable design that could endure extreme lifestyles, and the team and I succeed.
Unfortunately, the project came to a close and my time with Limbs International ended. It would be an honor to be trusted with a position in your company, and to work alongside your employees. I know that I will excel at any task given to me and I will be honored to make costumer pleased soon.

The average young girl dreams of becoming a princess, a nurse, a teacher, a mom. However, since a very young age I knew that I wanted to be an engineer like my parents have become. As I grew up, the thought of attending university was not a priority until my high school career started and the time was coming close to chose a university, and my first choice was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a variety of reasons.
Additionally, a further education has always been a goal of mine. The thought of receiving a diploma after hours of hard work, just to pursue my passion has always been on my mind, and I plan to accomplish it at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. The university provides a place where I can expand my knowledge and deepen my understanding on how the human body works. My aspiration in life has always been to bring happiness and well-being to others, and attending college will be a milestone in my life.
Furthermore, I believe that education is necessary so that the people will be more understanding with each other. The moment one comprehends other people's issues, the world becomes a more peaceful place. I want to be able to understand my surroundings in order to contribute into making the world a better place to live and to raise a family; to be able to bring smiles to people's face doing what I passionately love.
Nevertheless, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will give me the foundation I need to effectively do what I aspire to do and be.
