The Adventures
Huckleberry Finn
Mark Twain

This is a classic book about the friendship between a runaway boy named Huckleberry Finn and an escaped slave, Jim, who meet up by chance on an island in the Mississippi River.  They're both running away.  Huck is running away from his drunk dad and Jim is running away from slavery.  They become friends planning their escape together.   The book deals with serious issues of racism in America, but it is fun to read because the language is fun.  I highly recommend it.  ---Nicholas Wheat, age 12
