Cross Country Skiing in Northeast Ohio
I didn't start cross country skiing until last year, but it definitely makes the Ohio winter a lot more bearable. Two great places include Chapin Forest and Holden Arboretum, both Lake Metroparks.
Chapin Forest is located in Kirtland, Ohio. They have skis and snowshoes available for rent, many groomed paths to choose from, and a cliff with a great view. They have lights around some of the shorter trails, so it's a great place to go at night as well.
Holden Arboretum is also located in Kirtland, Ohio. They do not have anything available for rent, so you need to bring your own equipment. You can check out the visitor center and look at maps of the trails and find out the ski/snow shoe conditions. The trails are absolutely beautiful and it's such a big area that it's almost never crowded, unlike Chapin Forest.
Both parks are beautiful, and cross country skiing is pretty easy once you get the hang of it! It's a great workout and lots of fun. I highly recommend it.
