Mrs. Jordan's Class
1st Grade - Helena Elementary School
Welcome to our classroom blog!
Read Across America Day
Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss! We had a very busy day on Monday, March 2. We listened to Green Eggs and Ham on the Rick and Bubba Show, we watched some Dr. Seuss videos, and we had two guest readers (Mrs. Blackstone and a student from Helena High School). The Cat in the Hat visited the lunchroom. We read a lot of Dr. Seuss books and had a special snack. We also took some pictures in a photo booth!
The students worked on a biography project at home and at school. Each student chose a famous person to research. They worked on a questionnaire at home, as well as decorated a cutout figure to look like their famous person. At school, the students wrote a biography about the person and put the project together to display in the hallway.
Happy Birthday, Kate H.!
Zoo Field Trip
We went to the Birmingham Zoo on November 20. We got to see a lot of cool animals and had a picnic lunch. We had some worn out kiddos!
November 16 Birthdays
Peyton, Brayleigh and Anna Grace all celebrated their 7th birthdays on November 16. We got to have a special treat for each student three school days in a row!
In October and November, we had a total of 4 new students join our class! We welcomed Baker, Baleigh, Brooklyn and Kate N. to our classroom.
On Veterans Day, we give thanks to the men and women who have served in the armed forces. We talked about soldiers and how they protect us and give us freedom. Thank you, Veterans!
On Friday, November 7, we went on our first field trip of the school year. We went to the Alabama Theatre to see "Click, Clack, Moo." It was super cute and funny. We had a great time and really enjoyed getting to visit the theatre. It is beautiful.
For Halloween, the 1st graders decorated a pumpkin to look like a book character. We have some creative students in our class! Check out our pumpkins!
Boosterthon Fun Run
We are ready to run!!! Go Mrs. Jordan's Team Rockers!!!
We had a good turnout for Parenting Day on October 14. Thanks to everyone who was able to come to school. The kids got to teach their parents how to play math games!
Our PTO Performance was tonight! The kids did such a great job singing their fall and Halloween songs!
We have started our reading centers. Some of the centers we have been doing to help us become better readers include: the iPad, the SmartBoard, Word Work and Listening!
We had our first Kona Ice visit today. Everyone got to enjoy a cold treat on a very hot day!
When partners read, they sit EEKK (elbow to elbow, knee to knee). We have practiced seesaw reading (take turns reading the same book) and echo reading (repeating the same sentence as your partner).
We have been building our stamina the last couple of weeks. Each day, we have added a minute to our independent reading time. As of Tuesday (8/26), we are up to 1
We have been working on counting different objects during math time. The students worked in groups and had their own counting bags. Each group took the items out, counted them, and drew the objects they had in their bag.
The students got to bring in items from home so we could get to know each other!
