About: Garage Band can act as a full fledge recording studio right on your Apple mobile device as well allowing the use to try out multiple different types of instruments. Some further features of Garage Band include -

How can it be used? Music classes can use garage band in many ways - such as recording band pieces separately, so that the band can collaborate either in class or at a distance to create professional sounding collaboration of instruments. Garageband can then be used to share these pieces either with other schools / bands or as a way of performing to a wider audience.


About: GuitarToolkit provides all the essential guitar tools you need, such as a metronome, chords, scales & arpeggios and it can be used on an iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The GuitarToolkit app provides support for 6, 7 and 12-string guitars, 4, 5 and 6 string bass, banjo, mandolin and ukulele - all with standard and alternate tuning.

How can is be used? Guitar classes can take full advantage of the GuitarToolkit since students can use this application as a supportive tool to help aid in finding chords quickly, tuning instruments,  and quickly practicing scales supplied directly through the toolkit.

My Note Games

About:  The My Note Games app listens to you playing your instrument and helps you get the right notes as it shows them to you on screen. This application helps teach musical theory and instrument mastery.

The My Note Games app supports the following instruments - Saxophone, Piano, Guitar, Recorders, Woodwind, Bb Trumpet, Violin, Viola, Cello, Vocals and Whistling.

How can it be used? The My Note Games is a great application since it can be used for various grades of music students. For beginner students starting out with musical theory, this application will aid and help the student achieve a level up in beginner theory. Levels can be split and grouped into separate lessons as the theory becomes harder as there are 48 separate levels where . This application can also be used as a practice tool for students using separate instruments in a Junior High or High School Band.

Singing Vocal Warm Ups - Singer's Friend

About: The Singing Vocal Warm Ups app allows you to choose the range, scale pattern and how fast the notes play. The app plays the scale pattern from the bottom of the selected range to the top and then back down again.

How can it be used? This app can be used in conjunction with a school choir or in a vocal classroom. Students can use this as a tool to practice away from the classroom when a Vocal teacher is absent to help warm up for a performance or to work on vocal technique at home. Teachers could also use this application as a warm up toolkit in class as well.

Drum School

About: Drum School has a large selection of grooves, exercises and practice ideas to help expand ones drumming skills. It is also a perfect tool for easy access to a large library of professional sounding grooves for play along and as a reference library.

Drum School is divided into four main sections - Grooves, Practice, Technique and Favourites.

How can it be used? The applications listed above don' include the drumming part of a band. Drum School is an app that drumming students can use in a Band Curriculum as a quality practice tool by going through the drumming exercises (such as the basic rudiments, rolls, flams, drags and hand exercises). The Band Teacher can incorporate the lessons into their lesson plans and use this application as the practicing mechanism so that students can practice anywhere, anytime.
