The First Amendment
The freedoms of the First Amendment guarantees freedoms of religion, freedoms of speech and expression, and it grants the right to petition. It also forbids congress from promoting one religion over the other and restricting someone's religious practices. However, there are exceptions to freedom of speech. Speech that involves incitement, false statements of fact, obscenity, child pornography, threats and speech owned by others are all exempt from First Amendment protection. Commercial advertising receives diminished, but not eliminated, protection.
