1960s bride Kathleen Scruton wears same wedding dress to renew vows on golden wedding
A COUPLE marked their golden wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at the same church where they tied the knot 50 years ago.
Kathleen and Terence Scruton returned to St Columba's Church in Laburnum Avenue, east Hull, on Saturday.
Mrs Scruton, 71, even wore the same dress she did in 1965 and the couple chose the same hymns for the service
, which was attended by family and friends.
Mrs Scruton said: "The wedding was our granddaughter Bethany's idea. She has organised practically everything for us.
"The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, we loved it.
"The dress was the first dress I tried on all those years ago and I fell in love with it.

"Because it is 50 years old I couldn't have it dry cleaned because it would fall apart so it was washed by hand."
Mrs Scruton was walked down the aisle by her grandson, Matthew Elm, 18.
Her granddaughters Bethany Elm, 21, and Isabelle Scruton, six, were bridesmaids.
Mr Scruton, 73, said: "It was the perfect ceremony. Hopefully, we will have another 50 years together.
"We are still here, I have been really poorly but I'm on the mend now and this has been a great way to celebrate."
Mrs Scruton said: "I think I was more excited to get married this time than 50 years ago."
The couple met on New Year's Eve 1962 at a dinner dance at Hull City Hall.
They got engaged 18 months later on Mrs Scruton's 21st birthday.
They have two children, Jill, 47, and Andrew, 44.
Guests celebrated the couple's day with a reception at the Pelican pub in east Hull.
Mr Scruton said: "Our first wedding celebrations were next door in the church hall and everyone had a ham salad.
"This time was a bit different but we did a lot of our courting at the Pelican so it is a special place for us."
Mr and Mrs Scruton are planning a second honeymoon in Benidorm with family and friends.
"Last time we went to London as that was all we could afford," Mr Scruton said.
Asked what was the secret to a happy marriage, the couple said it was about give and take.
Mr Scruton said: "She looks after me. Without her I would not be here."
