LACK OF EQUALITY
Sanket Shah, Devin Hendrick, Alex Florenzo, Sam Sheinker
Black Codes: Laws that denied most legal rights to newly freed slaves. (Passes by southern states after the civil war). Lack of equality because newly freed black slaves were denied legal rights that all whites had so they weren't treated as equals.
Jim Crow Laws: Laws enacted by southern states and local government to separate white and black people in public and private facilities. Lack of equality because blacks weren't allowed to do certain things that whites did such as use of the same bathroom or waiter fountain. Blacks were not treated as equals.
Segregation: The separation of people on the basis of race. The blacks were segregated from whites.
