S9 Faculty Update

November 24-25

Thanksgiving is for most a happy time spent with family.  For some, the holiday time of year is a difficult time for a variety of reasons.  Whether the next few days are dreaded or desirable, take some time to consider others.  I believe that serving others brings about the most positive feelings a person can experience.  Find a person to serve in some capacity and you will find some happiness if only for a while.  Have a great Thanksgiving Break!

High-Impact Instruction

Jim Knight is an author that writes about improving instructional practices.  His most recent book, High Impact Instruction (A Framework for Great Teaching), is an excellent resource for anyone who desires to improve daily instruction.

I like to point out great resources that I believe will help you improve your instruction.  Some of you have even asked me after an observation what improvements you can make.  This resource is filled with strategies, printable forms and checklists, and learning maps that are sure to spark an interest with your students.

Seven Habits

Personal reflection always reminds me to review the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.  This is a list of the habits along with a link (one of many options) that describes the habit.

Habit 1 - Be Proactive (You're in charge)

Habit 2 - Begin With the End in Mind (Have a plan)

Habit 3 - Put First Things First (Work first, then play)

Habit 4 - Think Win-Win (Everyone can win)

Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood (Listen before you talk)

Habit 6 - Synergize (Together is better)

Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw (Balance feels best)
