The Moon's Importance

The Moon's Role
The moon has many roles. It has eight phases which we see every month. The eight phases of the moon are New Moon, Waxing Crescent, 1st Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, 3rd Quarter, and Waning Crescent. The moon also controls the tides because of its gravitational pull. It also has eclipses that only occur when a shadow is blocking the Earth, Sun, or Moon.
The moon has 8 phases. The moon's phases are caused by it's rotation and revolution. The moon rotates at the same rate that it revolves so the same side is always seen from Earth. The sun shines and the rays reflect off of the moon, but only where the rays reach so that is why some sides are dark and the other is light. When it is waxing the right side is light, and when it is waning the left side is light. Because of the moon phases, how light it is at night Is affected which also affects the temperature here.
The moon also causes tides. Tides are when the water level lowers and rises. There are two types of tides, Spring tide, and Neap tide. Spring tide is when the sun and moon are pulling in a straight line so the water bunches up at the side that the moon or sun is on. The high bunches are high tides, and the low parts on the side are low tides. There are at least 2 high tides and 2 low tides a day. Neap tide is when the Sun and Moon are both pulling at a 90 degree angle so there is no bunches of water. It is all equal. Tides affect when boats travel, or when you can fish.
Eclipses are caused when shadows are cast on something. There are two types of Eclipses, Lunar and Solar. Solar eclipses are caused when the moon blackout the sun. Lunar eclipses occur when Earth's shadow blocks the moon and the sunlight that reaches the moon appears red because of the Earth's atmosphere. The eclipses can damage your eyes but they are very pretty and they only occur certain times.
The moon is very important to us here on Earth. Because of the moon, there is light at night which also means that there is a little bit of warmth. If there was not a moon I am sure some animals would not be here today because some rely on it. The moon provides enough light that we can see at least a little. It also provides enough heat so we do not freeze because it is too cool. It is still cold outside at night but not freezing cold usually. The moon is very important and I am glad we have it.
