Winter Match Up With the Mustangs

The Pocahontas Indians and the Newell-Fonda Mustangs met up on January 9th at 6:00 pm on their home court for a game that was much more exciting and heartbreaking than anyone had anticipated. After a 2 week winter break and a first week back spent mostly at home due to the blizzard, both teams were short on practice and putting it all on the floor with the Conference Championship in mind. The game started with much enthusiasm when the Indians won the tip off. The first half moved quickly with plenty of good looks at the basket and a handful of turnovers.  At the half, the Indians were trailing by just enough to instill fear in their loyal fans. After plenty half court shots, the Indians were back on the court fighting hard in the paint and along the arch, but after two short quarters -- the Indians fell short. The Mustangs defeated the Indians, giving them their first loss of the season. The Indians are not giving up hope as they will continue to battle for their chance to take a trip to Wells Fargo and prove what a couple hours of practice and determination can do.
