Newton's Laws of Motion

By: Shawn B

First Law of Motion

What is it?

If an object is in motion it will stay in motion and an object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

What does this mean?

This law of motion is saying that if an object is in motion it will stay in motion, thus continuing forward. Also, this states that if an object is not moving it will not start moving nun less it is pushed on buy a unbalanced force, or more specifically a force greater in one direction than that of resistance in the other direction.

How does this visual aid relate?

In the above visual aid, it demonstrates the fact that when the light blue creature is in motion, it will continue to be in motion, even when the skateboard stops. This is because once an object is in motion and will continue to be in motion.

Second Law of Motion

What is it?

Newton's second law of motion states that the force of an object is equal to its mass times its acceleration.

What does this mean?

What this laws states, is that get force, first, you must find its mass as well as its acceleration. And multiply them together.

How do these visual aids relate?

The above visual aids demonstrate that when you are attempting to move something, the more mass that it has the greater amount of acceleration needed to be exerted apon it in order for it to be moved.

Third Law of Motion

What is it?

Newton's Second Law states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

What does this mean?

The concept that Newton stated in this law, is that for one thing that happens there must always be an equal consequence to that action.

How does this visual aid relate?

The above visual aid demonstrates this concept, by showing how a rocket moves. Gas propelling backward out of the rocket causes the reaction of rocket rising or in this case go to the right. The movement of the rocket is the equal reaction of the gas propelling the rocket.
