Mrs. Vande Hei's Newsletter
Week of October 20th-24th
Thank you to those who attended conference Thursday night. I always enjoy being
able to discuss your children with you. I look forward to meeting the rest of you next week on Tuesday night or Thursday morning.
Your child has been busy learning their numbers. We have been adding and subtracting numbers and making patterns with shapes and non standard items. We have also been spending time reviewing our 2D and 3D shapes. We will continue with this throughout the year.
In writing, we are busy working on counting how many words we have in our sentence and drawing lines in our sentence for those words to be written on. We then use "Stretchy Snake" to stretch out the sounds we hear in the words to write on the lines. Your child knows that a sentence starts with an uppercase letter and ends with a period.
In literacy, your child continues to meet with me in guided reading groups. The books they bring home should be read nightly and returned to school. If it is a paper book, they can keep those books at home at the end of the week. Please do not keep these books in their folders. Your child is also working through different centers and learning how to be independent learners, even at the age of 5! Yes, it is possible.
21st Century Skills
We continue to discuss what it takes to be a responsible person in our school and community. We also talk about what this should look like in different environments. Your kindergarten child is learning how to be a problem solver through different social situations in school. This will be an important life skill throughout their lives.
