8th Grade Georgia History Announcment
This year students will need to communicate and collaborate in many of the in classroom and extra classroom projects. As we begin these projects students will be encouraged to work with other students in positive and respectful manners.
For keeping everyone up to date as the year progresses students and parents will be using Edmodo (www.edmodo.com) to keep in touch, receive assignments, post progress and work, and engage in a variety of learning discussions. This website provides an online access to the classroom where the teacher, parents, and students can all keep track of and encourage the progression of individual students or the class as a whole. My goal is to open the lines of communication and to bring the parents into the classroom by involving them through Edmodo.
Prezi, www.prezi.com, is another online tool the students will be using in class this year. They will have to work together to research and then present their findings on various topics and will be able to present the information through Prezi. Prezi is a website the students will have time to access in the computer labs as well as at home while working with one or more students to complete an assignment. In the future, students may have to use the same techniques of communication and collaboration learned here in their future jobs to present critical information where ever they are working. With Prezi, the students will learn how to organize a presentation on various topics as well as how to present the information. The communication and collaboration skills they are learning now through the group projects centered around Prezi will help students go far beyond the classroom.
A secondary form of presentation the students will be using in their classroom group projects is Pixton at www.pixton.com. There the students will be able to work together to create comic strips of the content they are learning. This will allow the students to explain what they have learned in a fun and creative way. They will also be working in groups for these projects in order to allow the students to practice their communication and collaboration skills. Due to the nature of the comic strips, many of these projects will be smaller ones and will be completed in class via use of the computer labs or by the students bringing their own devices. Each of their group activities will be structured so each student must create and develop while navigating the task together in a positive and respectful manner.
