Abraham's Childhood

Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 his home was a cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Abraham had no middle name.

His Parents were named Nancy Thomas Lincoln and he even had an older sister named Sarah.

Abraham lived in poverty (meaning poor) he taught himself how to read, and write.

In 1821 when Abraham was 12 his mother caught milk- sickness from her family members later she died.

Abraham and his sister soon had a step-mother named Sarah Bush Johnston who they loved and she loved then too. :)

in 1830 Lincoln moved to Illinois New Salem, where he lived there till 1837, and in 1839 he met Mary Todd and got married 3 years later.

Over the next 11 years they had 4 children named Robert, Edward also known as Eddie, William also know as Willie, and Thomas also known as Tad.

In 1844 Lincoln became a famous attorney and the family bought a house at the corner of Eighth and Jackson.

In 1846 Lincoln ran for the United States House of Representative and won.

Later in Early in 1851 Lincoln's father died.

In the November 1860 election Lincoln runs against Douglas and Obviously....... Abraham Lincoln WON!!!! Abe was 52 at the time.

Abraham's Inauguration was on March 4, 1861.

Just a Month after President lincoln got elected The Civil War began on April 12, 1861 at Fort Sumter in South Carolina just a month after Lincoln took office. Lincoln was determined to maintain the "Union" of the states. He called for an army from the northern states to defeat the south. What followed was a bloody war that lasted four years and cost the lives of 600,000 Americans.

On January 1, 1863 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. the Emancipation Proclamation is the doing of Abraham freeing the slaves from slavery. This became the 13th amendment

on April 15th, 1865 in Washington, D.C. while at the theaters with his wife. Abraham lincoln was assassinated he was shot in the back of the head once. Abraham was buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois leaving his children and his wife behind
