Happily Ever After

By-Mackenzie Boehm

It was a hot, blazing afternoon. Everyone was outside working really hard. All of the sudden, Slim began to feel extremely dehydrated, therefor, he wanted to take his shirt off. As he was removing his suspenders, the leather strap whipped back and hit him in the face so he headed back to the bunk house to grab his pills off the shelf above his head. he arrives to find Curley's wife, alone,  sobbing at the table where they usually play cards. As Slim closed and locked the solid door, he asked her "What is the matter?" "Curley and I got into an argument that lead him to hit me in he face," she replied, sobbing. Slim got a rag and soap from the apple box shelf and started to clean the blood off of her face. After he cleaned her up, he made them some tea and toast and they sat down at the table and began to talk. As they got deeper into their conversation, Slim realized that Curleys wife wasn't like what everyone said she was. She just wanted the love and attention that her husband was not giving her. Curley's wife noticed that Slim actually cares about her unlike Curley. Slim glanced at the clock and realized he had work to do at the barn so he said "Well, it was nice talking to you, but I have to go to work. If you ever need anyone you know where to find me." Before he could open the door, she prevents him from opening it and looks into his eyes passionately, he looks back into hers. At that very moment, they realized that their whole life, all they needed was each other. That night, they made a plan to run away, which they did, and lived happily ever after.
