The Unstoppable Julie Krone

All About Me

Hey My name is Liesel, I am a student at Holman Middle School and I  Love to watch Horse Racing. So I decided to do a Jockey named Julie Krone. Some reasons why I love Horse Racing  is... It's is one of the most competitive sports in the world, and I love animals so my dad took me to my first horse race and I really loved it. Two of my favorite places to go are Saratoga Race Course and Finger Lakes Race Course and there both in New York where my Grandparents live. Also one of my favorite Jockeys is Rosie Napravnik.

Chronological Paragraph - "My life from the beginning."

My Story: Julie  was born on July 24th, 1963 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. When Julie was a little girl she watched Steve Cauthen on t.v. and told her parents she wanted to be a jockey when she got older. Finally in 1979 she went to go work at Churchill downs when 1 year later on 1980 she became an apprentice jockey. One year after she became a jockey she made a professional debut on Febuary 12. On August 20 she was the third jockey in 126 years to win five races in one day at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York. But ten days later at Saratoga, her season ended suddenly when her ankle was shattered in 11 places after she was thrown from her mount. She was further injured when another horse stepped on her chest and bruised her heart. Then one year later after taking a break from racing she comes back to racing and rides in the Kentucky Derby.
